Just bought a Rem 1100 Trap - '74 30".

Cleaned up real well. filthy firing unit. Springs very good. Magazine spring pretty stiff and when releasing bolt, it smacks into battery good. However, when charging a new round from magazine, the round enters the action but will not feed up into the chamber. when i manually release the bolt by pressing the release button the round firmly goes into battery.

Is there a missing pin or spring or something that is suppose to feed up the round?

Sorry for limited vocab/jargon. New to shotguns. Thought this was a real good find at $450.

Also. I brought the 1100 to range today just to see how it fires, even manually feeding the rounds. Pulled the trigger and nothing happened. Thinking the firing pin didnt hit. The bolt did firmly snap into battery.

Any thoughts?

I may have to just send into Remington if they do repairs... Still thought it was a good find. Great cosmetic shape. Was just thinking if easy fix, I'd try to solicit some help here.... Thx All.

When you pull back the bolt manually on an 1100 built before the last two years the bolt locks back. With practice you may be able to do it fast enough for the gun to finish the cycle. I have been doing it for 53 years and I can do it about 65% of the time. When you shoot it a round from the magazine hits the carrier latch and releases it. If a gun has a bent carrier latch it may also do it, but it is NOT supposed to. Push the carrier release.
If you are hearing the hammer drop and no bang, you probably have a broken firing pin spring. They redesigned those springs about 35 years ago.

Looking underneath the bolt I see the firing pin and spring. The spring looks good. However when I push in the back of the firing pin, I don't see the front end of the firing pin push out of the bolt face. I assume it should just a bit to strike the round. Can I assume that it broke off.

Also do I just push out a pin that seems to retain the firing pin in. It crosses the bolt at the back.

You need to take a pen and push on the back of the firing pin to get it to protrude. It is probably not broken. The original firing pin springs featured a constant pitch; all the coils look the same. The improved design has the coils in the center wound differently so it looks like two spring stacked together.
That pin that retains the firing pin and buffer usually requires a bit more than a "push" to remove it.
