I bought an 11-48 off of Gunbroker and was wondering if anyone can give me a good idea of the year of manufacture? The code on the barrel is December (I think) of '49 but I'm looking for something based on the serial number. Serial number is 5115301, based on the number manufactured and assuming production was even through all of those years it would be about 1962.

Anybody have any kind of list that would get me closer?

Also have a question about the carrier assembly. When I received the shotgun I couldn't load rounds into the magazine, the "loading gate" would not go far enough into the receiver to allow the rounds to pass. There is a hump, for lack of a better word, on the right side that hits the bolt stopping the carrier to close to the bottom of the receiver. I bought a new one from Numrich (Gun Parts Inc) that looks the same.

I'll find some place to host pictures so I can post them here.

Thanks in advance.

The barrel may not be original to the gun. No serial number lists but you can contact Remington and hope for the best. Your guess on the year seems close. Annual production fell off dramatically after the introduction of the Models 58 and 1100.
Hammer has to be cocked to load the magazine.
What could have happened... did.
