Just wondering..... have any of you R1 owners taken advantage of Remington's Platinum Service Plan? My R1 Commander is now 10 months old and I'm considering sending it in for the free one-year checkup. I've asked Remington if the service will actually be done at the Ilion plant or will it be farmed out to a third party. No response as of today. I'd like some feedback on the pros and cons and any personal experiences related to this matter.

So far, my Commander has performed flawlessly. Smooth in operation and mechanically tight, just like the day I bought it. Thoughts? And thanx in advance!

Well, Kevin, as you can see, not much response here. I've posted on one other forum and most responses there have been averse to sending in their R1s for any sort of work except for a major problem. The primary reasons are along the lines of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I've read also that on at least one occasion the pistol was returned with a different magazine than what was sent in. Additional concerns are that the pistol may be returned in less than optimal condition, and most owners don't want to be without their R1 for any period of time. After the R51 scenarios, I guess I can't argue with that. All that said, I'm inclined to just let things ride. Remington still has not responded to my inquiry as to who will perform the service and where the pistol is to be sent. So.......... as long as my Commander continues humming along I'll just be the proverbial happy pig in s**t!

Well, I inquired from Remington Customer Service as to where my R1 Commander would be sent for the Platinum Service. They informed me that she would be sent to:

B&B Arms 9283 US HWY 220 Business N, Randleman, NC 27317
http://www.b-barms.com/

I looked at their website and it is rather impressive. Have any of our R1 owners had any dealings with or personal knowledge of B&B? Thanx!
