Looking to put a red dot/holographic on my home defense 12GA 870. The stock I have raises the cheek so the bead on the rail is obsolete and I have to put on some kind of sight and since I want to run home defense I want something that will give me quick target acquisition. I'll be running slugs so it'll have to hold up to that recoil. Anyone have any experience? Hoping I can find something on the smaller side. Here's a picture of the build as of now. Image

That is a nice shotgun. I previously had an 870 tactical, it had a ghost ring sight. I also outfitted an 1100 with synthetic pistol grip stock (Choate), mag extension, and a barrel with rifle sights. I put a 1" nylon sling on it. After about 20 years I realized it was getting too heavy for me. I sold it to my friend and for $ 100 more than I sold it for, I bought an 1100 tactical model with an 18" barrel. I also have a lighter 870 tactical model. I sold the one with the ghost ring sight. Perhaps a simple bead sight would work for you? If you don't like that perhaps someone else has a better suggestion. Best of luck. I really enjoyed setting up my first tactical shotgun.

Cool looking 870, Michael. I've never used a holographic sight on a shotgun, but have had good results with tritium ghost ring sights before.

BTW, have you considered an 18" or 20" barrel for your gun? It may be a little more comfortable maneuvering inside your home.
