Does anybody know the correct torque settings for the action - i.e. stock to action - screws? I have got them set at around 24 in-lbs at the moment, but sometimes the bolt and or trigger won't work correctly, and when I reduce the torque everything starts working again.

I could keep playing around with the values until I find a happy medium, but the correct figures would be a bonus. I'm also tightening the rear screw first and then the front screw. Most of my other rifles prefer this, but I don't know about the Remington 37 - knowing my luck it will be different!

I've also been trying to decipher the barrel markings to try and find the approx date of manufacture - and anything else that the markings might mean - but I can't ake my mind up what they mean.
I'm guessing that it is a 1951 model, from the XX marking. The X's actually look like crossed hammers, but I'm assuming that they are indeed X's and not something else. Can anybody please give me any clues?

I'm also puzzled by the "Not English Make" stamp on the barrel and action. Is this normal, or have I managed to buy the one and only strange Rem 37 in the world? Any help will be very gratefully accepted! :D
