i have my fathers model 7600, 30.06 that was left in a closet and has developed what i consider moderate pitting and rust. my question would be is it worth it to have it reblued?

I sure would. Those are very nice guns and not cheap. Your gun is not that old and came out after the 760. Doubt you would be harming value by rebluing. Hope pitting is not too bad. Hopefully others will offer more on this issue.
