How's it going guys? I have an 870 that just has "Remington 870" stamped into the receiver. No express, express magnum, etc. Is there a certain point when Remington stopped stamping express into the receiver? I'm pretty darn sure it's an express.

Trying to figure anything out based on Remington's rollmarking is folly. For at least a couple of years they went to the style you have and then went back with no announcements marking anything. If it is not gloss blued it is an Express, unless it is a rare Parkerized version. Parkerizing is not rough or black, but smooth with a dark gray green appearance. And Parkerizing is not cheap.

Not likely Mauser9. They didn't do this until sometime after 2000 if memory serves, and the finish is matte black. But, like I said, with Remington rollmarking anything is possible.

Oops I stand corrected. I try to keep up with changes through forums and magazines but have not purchased a new Remington since buying a 700 ADL with walnut in 84. Bluing more like a mirror finish.
