Just picked up an older model 742 in 308. I need sights, f/r. Any advice on the rifle would be helpful, have not owned or shot one before.

Hope ya have good luck with it skydancer. Got a Model Four with the different gas and lock-up system and it has not given me a problem with jams thank god. Have heard of problems with these autos but wonder how many are caused by dirty or neglected guns.

Hello Skydancer,
How do you like your 742?

I have an opportunity to buy a 742 carbine in .30-06. I have read some good things and some very bad things. What have your experiences been?

What ammunition have you used?

Thanks.

Would like to hear back from him myself. Have heard the bolt torqued to the right creating a problem with feeding. Added a ramp in receiver for bolt to ride on. My Four has not given me a problem but to tell the truth it has not seen much use.
