bag and finished off the remaining 100 rounds of ammo with my Springfield, Range Officer. I called Customer Service the following day, got another label and shipped it back for a second try at a fix. I just got the pistol back today, the repair order said the feed ramp was polished, again, and the barrel 'Lip' was also polished, tested for function, test fired with Golden Sabres and pronounced, "good to go". I field stripped it to see what was done, and I am to say the least, astounded. The 'lip' of the barrel has been cut to a knife edge, and is immediately above the ramp, no gap at all. But the worse part is the inside of the frame rails are peened over, and the right barrel lug is scrubbing against the side of the frame. So with a few clever tweaks, they have transformed a pistol with a timing issue into $940 paper weight. Nice go Remington!

Hey All, Just got my Enhanced back from it's second flight back to Remington for hollow point feed issues IE: 3 point jams. During the first visit to Illion, the tech replaced the barrel and bushing, polished and widened the frame ramp, tested for function, and reportedly fired 40 trouble free rounds. The new barrel had a nicely polished chamber, and lock-up was still nice and tight, so I was quite pleased. When I finally got a day with a little TN sunshine, I took it to my range for some practice. I managed to fire six rounds before the first stoppage. But, I was encouraged because I was able to free up the slide and remove the jam without a major hassle. Unfortunately things went down hill from there, and I finally stuffed the Remington back in my

OK...so what's the plan now !?

The plan is to send it back, the frame is toaster strudel, so further attempts at gun plumbing and band-aids are not an option. In a nut shell, the barrel is not stopping on the VIS (vertical impact surface), before it slams into the barrel bed. The initial problem was failure to feed hollow point ammo (3 point jams), and an out of round, roughly machined chamber. . During the first return for repair the tech, replaced the defective barrel, and gave some attention to some of the less onerous shortcomings, like the binding disconnector and a trigger bow that was binding on the magazines. But, he did not address the fact that there was not enough clearance between the feed ramp and barrel. Therefore, after it's return the same failures to feed continued using ammunition that runs through my Range Officer, like grass through a goose. It was after the second repair attempt, and subsequent "test firing" that the damage to the frame was very obvious. This old thread posted on the 1911 Forum by far more learned disciples of JMB than me, describes the situation quite well. http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=354434 Hopefully, someone at Remington will recognize further fiddling and diddling are not going to resolve this problem and either send me a check, or machine a new frame to the original 1911A specifications and send me a pistol that does them proud, because I'm too damn old to carry on a protracted conflict, over obvious defective merchandise. |

Good luck and keep us posted on the final outcome.

It just doesn't make any sense. One of the reasons I bought the R51 was because my R1 Enhanced has been flawless. However the R51 has more than "made up" for that. Maybe long gun makers should not make pistols.

To their credit, Remington replaced my defective R-I Enhanced with a new one. Unfortunately, I have not been able to give the new one much exercise. We have been having nearly constant Monsoon rains here in South West, TN and the road into the gravel pit I lease for a range has been pretty well trashed, even for my four wheel drive pickup. Next week looks to be a bit better and by mid week hopefully the road will be okay.
So I can put a couple hundred rounds through it and then try it some with hollow point ammo. |

Looking forward to a range report on your new R1...

Hey OldCuss, I'm very interested in your experience. Can't wait to see your range report.
I bought my R1S about 3 weeks ago and couldn't be happier with it. Am so happy, I was considering buying a R1 Enhanced as soon as they can put a "made in Huntsville, AL" label on it - I live just outside Huntsville. Nice to see they replaced your pistol, gives one hope for the future of their customer service. |

I also have and issue with a new R1S Enhanced pistol. After purchasing this pistol three days ago, I took it home for a through cleaning and proper lubrication before heading to the range. After cleaning, the slide will not return to battery, it catches internally, leaving about a 1/4" gap. If left alone, the slide will occasionally snap forward and close. Needless to say, I will not be firing this pistol in it's present condition.
I have contacted Remington via Email and received a response from Para Ordinance, it looks like para may be manufacturing these pistols for Remington. I'm very disappointed in the lack of quality control put forth by one of America's firearms manufacturers, seems that Remington's focus is more on accounting than engineering. |

Para Ordnance? Very strange indeed, BD! I thought one of Remington's talking points was that the R1 is made in Ilion NY USA by Americans. In any case, I'm sorry to learn of that problem with your new R1S-E. I bought a new R1 Commander this past December and couldn't be happier. She function checked flawlessy when I got her home and cleaned up prior to range day. At the range, she also worked with only one minor hitch: a FTFeed MagTech 230 gr FMJ round. I cleared the jam, reloaded the round in the same magazine and continued on. I also fired 20 rounds of Remington Ultimate Defense 230 gr BJHP without a hitch. I must say that I still consider this weapon to be in the "breaking in" stage and will advise everyone if/when I encounter any more hiccups. No doubt Remington will stand behind their product, BD, and I hope all turns out well in your favor. But as for me, I am as pleased as punch with this pistol! -Ed-

Where have you guys been? Para is owned by the mother conglomerate that consumed Remington ages ago....
Gotta keep up with the times Major. New Yuck showed Remington the boot with their nazi liberal politics involving banking. Current state and federal banking controllers are making it impossible for gun manufacturers to have bank involvement. Kimber is about the only hold out in New Yuck. |

I bought the R1S Enhanced based on my experience with the R1S 1911 standard government model pistol I own and have been shooting for several months. I'm hopeful that Remington will do the right thing, but after receiving two initial email responses from their customer service I've heard nothing more from them. Finally I called the 800 number and spoke to someone who is supposed to be sending me paperwork to ship the pistol to one of their authorized repair facilities. No paperwork has arrived yet and still no follow up to the email I received four days ago. |
