I have an opportunity to buy a 742 carbine in .30-06. It was built in March of 1980. It has those high see-through scope mounts with a Bushnell 3X9 32mm scope. This is a consignment gun that they are asking $449 for it. It is clean on the outside, but they will not let me see the inside. I have read some good things about them and some really bad things. I'd like to hear from as many people as possible. What have your experiences been, good or bad? What ammunition does your weapon like? Do you reload for your 742?
Thanks.

...if they wouldn't let me inspect a gun I am interested in buying...I would pass on it !! |

Have heard rumors of them jamming but never owned a 742. Many guys neglect their firearms and don;t clean action often. important to keep these actions clean. I do have a Model Four which is a different bolt and gas system that has never given me a problem. Sounds like this 742 was made in final year of production. Price is good if they let you check it out better. Let us know how deal goes.
