When I picked up my R1 to replace the R51 my local FFL charged his regular fee plus NC sales tax. Emailed Remington and they gave me a fax number and contact person. Did all of that over two weeks ago and Have not heard a word from them. Anyone else have to file for a refund on the FFL charges??

I just paid the $25 transfer fee and called it good.

I don't know NC sale tax laws, so I am curious. Was the sales tax charge on the transfer fee itself, for the R1 or the MSRP price difference between the R51 and the R1? Since the R1 is a replacement for the R51, you shouldn't need to pay sales tax twice.

The sales tax was just on the transfer fee. NC has started taxing services.

Got an email from Remington that says the refund has been processed and it could take 4-6 weeks to get the check. Other than it being nearly $30 for the transfer fee, I wanted it because Remington told me they worked it out with the gun stores to charge the customer nothing. BUT if we were charged to fax them the receipt.

Gander Mountain wants $75.00 to do the transfer from Remington for my R1 45ACP that's going to replace my R51. They did say they would transfer the extended warranty plan I purchased when I got the R51 to the new gun. Hopefully Remington will not feel this amount is excessive and reimburse me. I feel it is, when I can get it transferred for $15.- $35. at Mom & Pop shops.

$75.00!? That IS robbery. When I bought my new R1 Commander a few weeks ago, the local "Mom & Pop" dealer only charged me $12.95 for the transfer and NICS check. The Big Box stores have really jaded me these last few years, especially when some certain ones slap an "ammo surcharge" onto their regular shipping fees.

Just an update to let folks know that I received my refund check from Remington for the FFL transfer of the new R1 that replaced my R51. Less time than expected. Way to go Remington !!

If Remington does release an updated version of the R51 I will buy it and be back to this forum. It's been an interesting year!

Hey lincen, Remington really is trying to do right for their customers. I finally got out to shoot my new R1. It's as good as my Colt, maybe even more accurate at more yardage. I'll run them again next week. Hope you're enjoying shooting yours. And, I'll be at the counter purchasing the 2nd Generation R51 when it gets a good number of positive owner/shooter reviews this summer.

Mine has done well too. A friend shot it some and said that right out of the box it was more accurate than his Clot or Springfield but the trigger may need a little work. More shooting can help some with the trigger. Very pleased with the R1 but do miss the R51 and will buy another if they come back out with an improved model.

Oh? Your R1 have that "creeping" trigger too? Mine has it. I haven't broken it down for examination yet, so I don't know the cause at this point. I suppose it could work itself out and that would be fine, but it is a little distracting when your bead is drawn and all you want is the sharp, crisp break.
