Hey guys. My 1911 R1 came in today. I called Remington 15 days ago to request the 1911 R1 trade they offered for the returned R51. 2 week turn-around time... Not a bad deal. Post it here when you get yours. It'll be interesting to hear how many of you did this 1911 swap.

I made the request and my FFL faxed them his information on November 18th. Not that long ago and the Thanksgiving Holiday would likely slow things down as well, so I am still waiting.

sriten, that's awesome. And I have to say that Blazer Brass and Remington UMC 230 gr FMJ seems to be the 2 most reliable bullets to cycle in the 1911s. My Colt 1991 loves both of them. Never as much as a hiccup.

Remington would've gotten it to you sooner, but they just had their resolution meeting about the swap on Thursday, the 13th of November. Is this your first 1911? Ya know, there's something about 1911s that just gets in your blood, then you start living & breathing 1911. You either love 'em or hate 'em. Nothing in between.

Hey SHOOTER, sriten just posted a pic of the same 1911 that Remington is sending out. I started to post mine but forgot how to use that PhotoBucket. I'll try to figure it out again. Lot of good that $43,000.00 computer science degree got me, huh?

Got the call today and picked up my R1 right as the gun store was closing. Nov 20 to Dec 3, not bad Remington.

Now I have figure out how to get my transfer fee refunded. Anyone done that yet?? I know they said to send it to them but they gave no email or fax number.

lincen, you have to be kidding. Remington was supposed to handle the fees up front. All you were supposed to do is the normal ATF Form 4473 at your FFL dealer and the gun is yours. Who charged you for that? Gander Mountain charges $75.00 but they knew Remington was paying for that. I'm surprised that fell through the loops. Someone needs to give you the equivalent in some range ammo... or cash back. But yes, 2 weeks is quite an impressive move on Remington's part. They know what they have to do, and they're doing it.

Rick 51, yes this is my first 1911. Most of my pistols are 9 mm or .40 but no 45s or 1911s until now. I now see the why so many love these things.

Well, if you've never fired a 1911, I'd say you're in for a real treat. 1911s are a pleasure to shoot and "GOOD" 1911s are even sweeter. Remington falls under the "good" category where 1911s are concerned.

I have a tokarev, which is similar to a 1911 mechanically. Visually it's similar to a 1903. You can pick new ones up for under $250 in 9mm or 7.62x25. These are the new Zastava m57a's or m70's. They have a compact m88a 9mm for about the same price. Pretty nice guns for the money. I like the 7.62x25.

There's also that armscor 1911 in .22tcm. Comes with a 9mm barrel. If I were to get a 1911, that would be it.

I haven't fired the R1 yet remmy. I'm waiting to return my 2nd R51 while I decide if I'll keep one as a shooter and use the other for a descent trade up to a Carry Commander. My local gunshop said they'll work with me on a trade, but I'm going to try to deal directly with Remington so I can get a better price. But I'm dying to shoot this thing side-by-side with my Colt. That's going to be an interesting comparison. In the meantime, yes, I'm enjoying looking at it.

I'll keep my eye on the R1 forum in the coming months then! Heck with the rebate and the fact I just don't have one. I may have to change that....I'll think of it as.....a Christmas gift to myself! :D

That'd be a heck of a gift to yourself... It oughtta be a law that every gun owner has a 1911 or two. They're just that sweet and they get in your blood, then you're hooked for life.

Hey pinetree, that's great. Who knew most (or some) R51 owners would end up with a new 1911 instead of what we were originally purchased... Life is full of surprises.

To tell ya the truth...I would rather have the R1 than the R51.

( Nothing against your original purchase idea guys...just me )
