This most unfortunate incident needs to be posted,

My brand new Remington 552 BDL lost it's fore end at the range....just fell off, as the fasteners were apparently stripped by an assembler.
Sent the rifle per Remington instructions to Illion, NY, for warranty service.

My Remington 552 BDL arrived home yesterday, and the factory repair people destroyed the rifle....I am so sick.

The entire left side of the barrel is scratched/gouged from receiver to muzzle; looks like someone used a knife on it.
Worse yet, the front left side of the receiver has two dings with a scratch, and the butt stock has some light abrasions to the finish plus a ding. New fore end also has a ding on it.

Whomever removed the bubble wrap, destroyed a brand new rifle, just purchased in July, and fired one time only.
Spent most of yesterday afternoon on the telephone with Remington, and absolutely nothing has been resolved. Everyone at Remington Country seems as if they could care less about what someone at the Factory did to that rifle.

Thank You Remington Arms Inc, for the destructive warranty service!

I've bought three new Remington firearms within the last year, the 552 being the latest.
During June 2014, I bought My son (who is deployed to the middle east), a brand new Remington R1 1911 Centennial Commemorative, which is His birthday present, and is waiting at the gun store, when He returns to His home.
Last year, I bought a brand new Remington 504 rifle, 22 caliber, but fortunately, that rifle hasn't needed a trip to the factory.......believe Me.....IT NEVER will go back to that mad house.

UPDATE:

Remington called this AM, and apologized for failing to email the pick up tag and service request.
Apparently, someone mistook an I for an L in My email addy.

The rifle is packaged, tagged, and waiting for UPS to pick it up once again.

Given the amount of damage to this rifle, left side, muzzle to butt plate, either a total reimbursement for My actual cost to purchase the rifle, or, a brand new 552 bdl rifle shipped to My FFL dealer would be acceptable.
This particular rifle had well above average wood on it, and I doubt Remington could replicate that.

Below, an image posted of My 22 rifles before returning the 552 to Remington, this past late September.

Received a call from one of the higher ups at Remington this afternoon, and He's promised to totally restore the rifle to new condition, including (if needed), a new barrel, & receiver, with a new serial number.
He offered Me some ammunition, but I declined for the moment, replying that first We deal with the rifle damage.
Should the factory fail to sufficiently renew the rifle, He stated that We'll look at other venues.
Let's just say that at this point, I'm not optomistic.

Still waiting for the 552's return.
Without an advance email or telephone call, Ilion, NY shipped the rifle on Dec 4, which is the same morning that I left home for 2 weeks.

Ultimately, the rifle was returned again to Remington, even though I tried to have UPS hang on to it, until My return.

A call to Remington higher ups, and I was advised that the rifle was shipped as a brand new rifle, however, in the email sent to me advising of a completed repair, the serial number had not changed.
The person on the phone advised that a new serial number was on the rifle, and that I should have not refused delivery.
I advised him that I had left home on the AM of Dec 4, and did not return until late on the 18th, and was 1400 miles from home, therefore, I cannot be held responsible for UPS's failiure to deliver.

I've requested cash reimbursement for the rifle instead of a rebuild, but they denied the request.
Basically, what they have attempted, is a make-over of a customer's new rifle, which someone in the factory warranty repair section, unwittingly destroyed.

Looks like I'll be going to small claims court, because I'm pretty much done with that 552, and really not interested in owning a re-fabricated, previously destroyed rifle.
I doubt the rifle is currently worth more than $250 at best, and quite frankly, I'd prefer to recoup My original money spent, rather than try to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

This episode has been truly stupendous on the part of Remington, since I purchased 3 brand new Remington firearms within slightly more than a year's time, prior to the incident. :x

Eventually, I received a new 552 bdl rifle from Remington.
Took months and months, and the rifle which was delivered to My door is a real plain-jane.
Nothing but straight grain in the stock and fore end, not at all pretty like the rifle which the factory trashed.
Even the bluing is dull and lifeless, unlike the previous rifle.

At this point, the gun has been sitting in the rear of the safe, sans the Leupold rimfire scope, because I'd rather not have to even look at it.
I may sell it in the future, but right now, I'm still unsettled, after what those Illion, NY people did to My rifle.

I'm giving My Daughter's sons My almost new 504 with the Leupold 2x7 rimfire scope, plus I had cancelled an order for a new 700 bdl in 243, due to the entire fiasco.

Sorry for the negativity, but I feel dumped on by the oldest gun manufacturer in the USA.
Perhaps after a couple years, I'll feel differently, but right now, I'm continuing to upgrade My Classic Colt revolver collection.
