Which R1 model do you have? Sight cuts can be and are different, depending on which model you have.

Just the R1, not the stainless or enhanced, Im alittle confused about the cuts on the slide, Ive read 3 different types from people in other forums, one was they are novak cuts, second they are GI cuts and the last that the first is novak and the rear is GI. I attached a photo I hope helps. Its what my R1 looks like, I tried taking a photo of mine and posting it but I cant seem to take a photo small enough to post.

And does anyone know how high the front sight is on the R1? From what Ive read and experienced shooting the gun the front sight is a bit high, causing the gun to shoot low. I was looking at some red fiber optic to match with a combat rear and was wondering the height I should get. I was thinking .150-.160 but not sure as I dont know how much shorter, if any, it is then the factory front sight

Having the same issue with my R1 - believe the front sight is a bit higher than my other pistols, so I'm also shooting about an inch low - but dead on line - in fact, tearing hole in the target. Have 2 7rd and 3 8 rd mags, loaded them all up and fired them all at the same target for my first firing. From 10 yards, the first 5 rds about 1 3/4 inches low (first time shooting a 5 inch barrel in a while - had to adjust my sight line) but the final 33 rds were all in a 1 1/2 inch hole about an inch below the bull. Am really happy with my R1S, just have to hold a little high.

I have an R1 that is shooting about 4 inches low at 10 yds. That is too far off to be able to compensate for. I initially contacted customer support about a lower front sight. They sent me one, but I was unable to break the .050" set screw free to replace it. I have contacted support again about 3 weeks ago and they told me I could send it back for warrenty repair and they would send me a shipping label. I'm still waiting for the shipping label. Its too bad because I really like the gun otherwise, but as far as I'm concerned, right now its no better than a paperweight.

My R1 doesnt even have set screws. They must have either changed design or they send them out with a mish mash of parts?

Mine have them. In the top of both sights. R1 stainless. |

I wonder if the newer ones that don't have the set screws are Novak cut. Man that would make upgrades easy.

What model R1 does not have the set screws? I talked to customer service yesterday and they are sending me sending me the shipping label package again. Apparently the first one got lost in the mail. If the current ones are shipping with different sights that use a more standardized cut, I'm actually hoping they just replace the whole slide.

Its a Standard R1 Commander. No set screws at all.

On Remington's internet store there are quite a few parts for sale on clearance. One of them is the red fiber optic front sight used on the upper tier models. Only $25. I want to jump on it but have to wonder about Fitton considering all I've read.

Well, Remington has my R1 in the shop now for a few days and the status on the web site states that someone is working on it. I'll update again with results once I finally get it back. I really hope that they can fix the elevation issue because I really like the gun otherwise. It grouped well, very nice trigger, and not a single function issue otherwise.
I guess I hadn't bought a new Remington gun for many years and still believe that the advertising for the 700 rifles would apply any hand gun they might produce. "Most accurate rifle you can buy out of the box." |

My R1 showed up via UPS today. This was included in the box. All that's left is a range test for myself and I'm a happy camper!

wow, this site doesn't have much traffic on it.
I've made several trips to the range with my R1. I think that the more I shoot it, the more I like this gun. The only ammo I've shot through it that it didn't really like was Winchester white box bulk stuff. Federal, Estate, Rem UMC and HTP along with my 200gr semi wad cutter cast reloads shoot flawlessly with the factory mags. |

I'm a bit late here. I bought a new R1 Commander this past December and it has no set screws for either sight. When I took her to the range she grouped nicely with the factory set sights. I couldn't be happier.

My Commander's sights are the same, must be a ongoing design change. |
